ABOUT

Who is Alden?

I make knives part time. I am a homeschooler in highschool. I take knifemaking very seriously, and try to make the best knife I can. I have recently been working out stainless steels, tapered tangs, dovetailed bolsters, and springback (commonly known as slipjoint) folders. I work on knives most often in the spring and summer, in the fall I hunt, and in the winter I wrestle, along with pretty constant schoolwork. This means if you want a custom Christmas present, it is better to get it started sooner than later.  I am glad to live in the Pacific Northwest, but gladder to live in the USA, which I believe is the best country currently around. I have been blessed with many supportive friends and family members, who have helped me along on my path. All thanks trace back to our gracious Lord.

How did I get started?

I've always liked knives. I didn't own a knife at the age I thought I should, so I tried to make one. My first knives were very ugly and were not sharp. They were technically not knives. I was always looking for old files or steel to make a knife blade from; for some reason they did not magically appear. Eventually I realized that I had to actually buy things to make good knives. After that, I joined the Knifedogs forum where many kind people helped "learn" me. There is a LOT to learn about knifemaking and a lot to master. My knives are always improving because I am always learning! This is about the most consistent theme you will find among knifemakers right there.

How are the knives made?

I make knives using the stock removal process, which means I start with a bar of steel and cut/grind it to shape. While it seems simple it is anything but, and many men have devoted their entire lives to the craft. Many knifemakers are very skilled at forging blades, but this is not my style. Currently I work with AEB-L, D2, and 440c. I think I will also try using 4v or Magnacut in the future. For handles I work with natural wood and Micarta, and on special request I can work with antler. I do every part of this by myself. I do not source out heat treating, sheaths, or engraving, it is all done by my hand. I can speak for myself, but I can't give my word for someone else.

The Good News

A summary of The Gospel:
- We’ve sinned which makes us an enemy of God, because He is perfect (Romans 3:23, John 3:16)
- Our sin has earned us spiritual death, which is separation from God forever (Romans 6:23)
- God is merciful (Romans 5:8), he sent his son as a substitute sacrifice (romans 3:25) for our sin, to save all who call on Him by faith (Ephesians 2:8-9) and repent of sin (Luke 13:3), only because of a perfect sacrifice, Jesus (John 1:29)
- Jesus lived sinless (2 Corinthians 5:21) in the flesh, defeated death (1 Corinthians 15:54) and our sin by rising from the grave (matthew 28), while absorbing God’s wrath through his death on the cross
- When we understand our sinful position, our need for Jesus, and trust in Jesus’ work, we confess that to God, then we are saved from God’s future wrath, and totally forgiven for our sin (Romans 10:9-10,13)

The Gospel from The Bible:
- John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
- Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
- Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- Romans 5:8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
- Romans 10:13 For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

- Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 2:8-9  For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

- Mathew 16:24-26 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
